New HIPAA Rules Take Effect January 1, 2012
The provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 and enacted by Congress in 1996, cover all chiropractic practices. Every DC in practice should have a written HIPAA compliance plan on file. To enhance the effectiveness of the security and privacy provisions of HIPAA, new rules will take effect on January 1, 2012 that will establish new requirements in electronic data submission and storage.
